Green Communities

December 3rd, 2009 | ZoeCohen

LCL has been successful in gaining support via the Energy Saving Trust’s
Green Communities Programme. Heather Gott, our local community advisor,
will be able to provide up to one day per week of her time to help develop and
implement an action plan and provide practical help and support. A small
working subgroup has been formed to help to develop the action plan with
Heather and a meeting with her will be arranged in the near future.
Meetings have now been held on 4th November and 13th November.

A high profile event is being planned on Saturday 23rd January to raise the profile of Low Carbon Lymm and to encourage Lymm residents and businesses to sign-up to the 10:10 campaign (10% carbon reduction in 2010) – offers of help and ideas for stalls/activities welcomed. We will use Dickensian Day – Saturday 12th December – to promote the above event with a group from LCL joining the parade which starts at 1pm

Local family join Guardian’s national 10:10 campaign and pledge to make a difference

Local family the Barkers have practical reasons for cutting back on energy, ones that are common to many during this recession. The flourishing economy of their household in Warrington, took a knock when Louise was made redundant in December after 22 years with a tool hire firm. Earlier, husband Tim had negotiated a career break after 20 years in logistics management, to take on the restoration of a few classic Porsche 911 cars – a lifelong enthusiasm, but not one designed to bring in the family’s only income. The couple have two children in local primary school – Emma, 10, and William, 7 – who are undoubtedly going to play a role in encouraging the family’s planned 10% cut. Louise, echoing parents the country over, says: “They’re always warning us if they think we’re harming the environment – you know, we should compost that, Mum, or let’s recycle that, Dad.” The national curriculum is proving a highly effective agent of reform…

Lymm showing of ‘The Age of Stupid’ a huge success

September 26th, 2009 | ZoeCohen
Low Carbon Lymm Chair Richard Pearce thanks all supporters for their help at The Age of Stupid showing on Friday 18th September. The feedback has been very good and it has really helped to put LCL on the map. More than 100 people came for the viewing – a great achievement for a small community group still in its infancy. We also signed-up 14 new members - one of whom is a case study for The Guardian’s national 10:10 campaign! Thanks to all involved.
