Lymm Hydro Project

June 29th, 2009 | RichardPearce

Low Carbon Lymm is looking into the potential for a hydro scheme or schemes in Lymm to utilise our local water resources and to generate electricity for the village. It could also act as a visitor attraction and a link to the industrial heritage of the village (e.g. the water powered corn and slitting mills).

We are currently investigating funding for a feasibility study to assess the potential in three locations in and around Lymm.

Behaviour Change

June 29th, 2009 | RichardPearce

What can we do in Lymm to ‘nudge’ us into changing our behaviours towards our use of energy in the home and when we are travelling to work or on holiday? There is a wealth of information and advice on what to do but many of us just keep on doing what we have always done despite the fact that we can save money as well as energy and carbon if we make some changes.

Let’s have some ideas and discuss how they might work in Lymm. Some examples could include

  • Energy ‘champions’ – people/households who have made big savings and are prepared to share their experiences of how they did it.
  • Get a local ‘celebrity’ to support and promote a campaign e.g. for more cycling or using the bus
  • Organise a competition between households and/or streets to reduce energy/carbon by the greatest amounts over a fixed period of time
  • Initiate a promotional campaign to make it ‘smart’ to be low energy/carbon etc etc

Solar Water Heating

Experience with using solar water heating sffsd

A number of Lymm residents have installed solar water heaters over the past 2 to 3 years. It would be good to share practical experiences of installing and using these devices. We could learn how to get the best performance out of solar water heaters and help others who are considering buying them. This ‘site’ could also link into sources of advice and help on these installations and to local suppliers.

Information on the performance of the systems could include :

  • data on savings in energy/carbon
  • energy cost savings.
